I think the first time I saw derek beaulieu's work was at phu online, but that was a while ago (probably doing a search on "concrete poetry" + "submission guidelines"), and I know I've chanced across other things since then. What caught me most recently was a couple of pieces that were posted at bentspoon. I saw those and thought, "I'd really like to see some more of his work." And thanks to the magic of modern technology, not only do I get to see some more, I get to spread it around, too.
derek beaulieu has been a past editor at both filling Station and dANDelion and a special editor of issues of Whitewall of Sound and Open Letter. In addition to his magazine editing work he was also editor/publisher of housepress (1997-2004) and is the author of several books of poetry (with wax, Coach House, 2003; Frogments from the Frag Pool, Mercury, 2005) and visual poetry (fractal economies, Talonbooks, 2006). He lives, with his young daughter, in Calgary where he is Administrative Director at The New Gallery, an artist-run centre. derek can be contacted by emailing derek at housepress dot ca.
For more of derek beaulieu, there is an interview with him over at canadian content, and Coach House Books has a piece of digital ephemera available for free viewing and copies of derek's book, with wax, available for purchase from derek's author bio page. For now, here are 10 pieces to whet the appetite.
